Maldives Police Service revealed Tuesday that a local man was arrested from an undisclosed industrial island over alleged drug possession.
Following intelligence reports received at the police station in Hinnavaru, Lhaviyani Atoll, the police arrested the 23-year-old suspect on Monday at 2219 hrs.
Police found and seized 16 cellophane packets containing suspected drugs in a plastic bag the man was carrying at the time of arrest.
The Hinnavaru Magistrate Court has remanded the suspect for a period of 15 days.
Police stated that officers based in the Hinnavaru Police Station are investigating the case further.
