Maldives marks Sunday as the day with the highest tourist arrivals since the pandemic started.
According to the Tourism Ministry, 6,269 tourists visited Maldives on December 5. This record was previously achieved in October, with 6,197 tourist arrivals.
Another record for #Maldives with 6269 tourist arrivals on 5th Dec! A #NewRecord of tourist arrivals on a single day since we reopened borders in July 2020. We thank the tourists for their confidence in Maldives; continuous efforts of industry stakeholders & related authorities.

When 2021 started, Maldives welcomed 4,000 tourists per day on average. However when Covid cases surged in May, daily arrivals decreased to around 1,000-1,500 on average. Arrivals saw an increase again around July.
Maldives achieved its target of 1.1 million tourist arrivals for 2021 in October. The new goal the country is working towards is 1.3 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year.
Even though Maldives have been celebrating an increase of tourist arrivals, since the new Covid variant Omicron was discovered in Maldives on Sunday, some countries have mandated quarantine after returning from Maldives, which may impact tourist arrivals yet again.
