Tourism development depends on joint efforts: President Yameen

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that the development of the tourism industry can only be continued with joint effort by all Maldivians to maintain national harmony, and a strong will to sustain the quality of the industry.

Hinting to this year's World Tourism Day 2018 slogan: 'Tourism and the Digital Transformation', President Yameen recognized the technological evolution experienced in modern times and further noted the unbelievable developments to the tourism industry.

President Yameen acknowledged the tourism industry as one of the most innovative industries in the Maldives and expressed his delight on the development to the tourism industry during his regime.

Additionally, President Yameen shed light to the statistics of the Tourism Industry during his five year regime with 35 new resorts opened, 7 hotels and 495 guesthouses. One of the pledges made in 2013 by President Yameen was to open a total of 10 new resorts every year.

Furthermore, President Yameen also highlighted the development and opening of four domestic airports during his regime and revealed ongoing projects of six more domestic airports across the island nation.

The President also noted any development to the tourism industry as a development for all Maldivians, and added that the opening of more resorts will lead to more job opportunities for locals and further development of the people as well.
