A man who was in the sea, fishing, in Gaafu Alif Gemanafushi has died after being hit by a speedboat last night.
The victim is a 45 year old Maldivian male.
Police have stated that the man had been in the lagoon for spearfishing when the speedboat had accidently hit him while it was trying to enter the island's harbour.
The man was immediately taken to the island's hospital for treatment. Police have said the hospital has since informed them that the man had succumbed to his injuries.
Another man has also died in the past week in a collision between a fishing vessel and a speedboat.
