Police launch homicide investigation into accident

Maldives Police Service, on Monday, confirmed the commencement of a homicide investigation concerning Aishath Nazra, the 24-year-old woman that died following a motorcycle accident on November 27.

According to the police, the incident occurred at approximately 2200 hrs near Dharumavantha Hospital in the capital city of Male' after the driver lost control of the vehicle.

At the time of the accident, the motorcycle was reportedly being driven by Nazra's partner, a 24-year-old man that does not have a license to operate the vehicle.

Nazra died on Sunday at ADK Hospital while receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the accident.

The 24-year-old woman's family revealed that doctors had stated that the chances for survival were slim.

Speaking to local media outlet Mihaaru, the driver denied claims that he was speeding and stated that the accident occurred when he averted his eyes in response to a person on the road harassing Nazla.
