A man was injured by a steel pipe that fell from a construction site on Tuesday night.

According to Maldives Police Service, the incident occurred approximately around midnight, at a construction site for which the road was closed. The passenger on a motorcycle, driving on the wrong side of the road, suffered a cranial injury and was taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment.

Police stated that the steel pipe was part of the safety structure and relevant parties to the accident are currently being investigated.

An expatriate worker was killed at a construction site last week upon being struck by a falling jumbo bag of cement sacks. Earlier the same week, an incident involving a snapped winch cable at the same site left another person injured.

The government has taken several steps to reduce incidents at construction sites, including enhancing safety guidelines to be followed at the locations.
