Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Saturday, convened for official talks alongside senior delegates from both countries.

During the meeting held at the President's Office, both leaders highlighted the path forward towards bolstering Maldives-India's diplomatic relations, affirming the longstanding friendship between the two countries.

According to a statement by the President's Office, the prime minister noted President Solih’s decision to travel to India for his inaugural visit as evidence of the "deep affection" Maldives holds towards India.

Similarly, President Solih regarded PM Modi's decision to visit Maldives following his re-election to the Indian premiership, as signalling strong respect towards Maldives.

Both leaders congratulated each other on their recent political success.

In reference to strengthening relations, PM Modi mentioned various assistance provided by his administration, including the grant assistance of USD 6.9 million (MVR 106 million) for high-level socio-economic development.

During the visit, the governments of Maldives and India signed six agreements in five varying sectors.

In addition, Maldives and India will sign two MOUs on cooperation in the health sector, along with an agreement between the Indian Navy and the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) regarding information sharing on white shipping, encompassing non-military and non-government shipping vessels.

The Indian prime minister is visiting Maldives on the invitation of President Solih.
