President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Tuesday, participated in the world record-breaking 'Neyvaa' freediving event organised by the Ministry of Tourism.
The event held in celebration of World Tourism Day 2019, was hosted at Baros Maldives.
President Solih joined 520 others in a simultaneous freedive in the resort's lagoon, remaining underwater for around 30 seconds.
World champion freediver Willian Trubridge, a double world record-holding freediver from New Zealand, also participated in 'Neyvaa'.
Officials of Guinness declared “Neyvaa” as a new world record and presented the official certificate to President Solih.
“Neyvaa” was Maldives' bid to break the world record previously held by ‘La Scuola del Mare 2’, in Torri del Benaco, Verona. With a total of 280 participants, Verona set the world record for most people freediving simultaneously on October 1, 2009.
