Spokesperson for the President's Office Ibrahim Hood, on Monday, stated that the government had appointed individuals to the positions of Senior Policy Executive and Policy Executive.

The position of Policy Executive is newly created whereas the post of Senior Policy Executive was established during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. Individuals who fill both positions rank lower than Deputy Ministers.

Although the President's Office revealed that appointments were made, the total number of appointments made was not disclosed.

Senior Policy Executives receive a monthly income of MVR 21,000 consisting of a basic salary of MVR 13,000 and allowances of MVR 8,000. Policy Executives are paid a basic salary of MVR 11,000 and allowances of MVR 7,000 which adds up to MVR 18,000.

Hood guaranteed that the positions would be assigned accordingly depending on the necessity, and reasons for necessity within a Ministry.

Additionally, Hood revealed that the positions of Senior Policy Executive and Policy Executive were included in the development framework of the current administration. However, he noted that political positions would be fewer compared to the previous government.

Excluding posts in the President’s Office and the presidential residence of Muliaage, the number of political positions during Yameen's presidency reached a total of 465. President’s Office revealed that the current administration had cut down this figure to approximately 300.

According to Hood, current state expenditure on salaries of political posts was MVR 1.5 million less than that of the previous administration.

In President Yameen’s administration, several Deputy Ministers were appointed to Senior Policy Executive positions, at the level of Deputy Ministers.

Deputy Ministers receive a monthly income of MVR 35,000. Their basic salary is MVR 20,500 along with allowances of MVR 15,000.
