The recent gang related violence in the Maldives continued on Saturday after five were critically stabbed in the southernmost Atoll Addu and one injured in the capital Male in a separate incident.

Police spokesperson confirmed that the violence broke out between two gangs in Hithadhoo around midnight.

Five people injured in the attack are being treated at the Hithadhoo Regional Hospital, spokesperson added.

Mihaaru understands that the victims are in their early twenties and some had suffered serious head injuries.

Police said four people have been arrested in connection to the assault.

Around the same time another man was injured in a possible gang related attack in the capital Male.

According to the police spokesperson the man injured in the attack was being treated at the privately run ADK Hospital.

ADK managing director Ahmed Afaal said the victim's injuries were not serious.

"He was hit in the back with a hard object. He also had scratches all over his body," Afaal said.

The latest gang related violence came after two fourteen year old boys were stabbed and killed in Male in what police say was a dispute between two gangs.

Ahmed Irushan was stabbed in the neck on Friday while Fathir Mohamed was stabbed in the back three hours later in what police believe was a revenge killing.

Police said the dispute between two notorious gangs in Male "Vai Kanmathi" and "Eagles" occurred last Friday.

Seven minors and an adult remain in custody in connection to the violence.
