Sri Lanka announced that the country will open up its borders in January 2021.

Visitors arriving at Lanka after the border reopening are required to adhere to a special set of guidelines, in addition to complete a 14-day quarantine period.

Although Lanka previously offered on-arrival visa, this option is no longer available and visitors will be required to acquire visa prior to arrival.

Visa will be issued online or via the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). Tourist visa acquired this way will be valid for a period of six months.

Every tourist entering Sri Lanka must also have a COVID-19 insurance, and will have to bear the cost of all medical bills in case of testing positive for the virus.

The preventive measures for hotels have already been publicised.

Although tourists are permitted to visit popular locations, they are prohibited from using public transport.

Prior to this, Sri Lanka announced the opening of the country’s borders, but postponed it due to an upsurge in virus cases.
