COVID-19: Govt begins operation of 'Travel Clinic'

The government on Tuesday began operating a round the clock 'Travel Clinic' near the Sinamale apartment complexes in capital city Male', for individuals with a recent travel history to any country with a confirmed COVID-19 outbreak, exhibiting symptoms for the virus.

In addition to the Travel Clinic, a 'Flu Clinic' was established at the Senahiya Military Hospital for individuals with symptoms of the virus, without any travel history to a country with the outbreak.

During the press conference held at convention centre Dharubaaruge, Mabrouq Abdul Azeez, Communications Undersecretary at the President’s Office, said that no restrictions were imposed by the World Health Organization (WHO) on Maldives or any other country.

Maldives' national alert level remains 'Yellow'. During the yellow alert, authorities will screen individuals exiting and entering islands, stockpile medical supplies at an atoll level and provide psychosocial support to those affected.

Of a total of 71 samples tested so far, only six individuals were confirmed positive for COVID-19.

Till date, no Maldivians have tested positive for COVID-19.

Minister of Communications, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal, on Monday, revealed that efforts were underway to enable employees to work from home in order to maintain safety and prevent disruption amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
