The 2024 Olympics which will take place from July 26 to August 11 at France's capital, Paris will observe Maldives participating in four events; badminton, athletics, swimming and table tennis.
The 16 year old table tennis player, Dheema is the first Maldivian athlete to claim a spot at the Olympics after competing in a qualifying stage, and will also be the first player to represent Maldives in the sport.
Dheema won the South Asian Olympic Table Tennis Qualifiers held in Nepal last May after competing with Sri Lankan champion Bimandi Bandara, finishing the match off with a stark 4-1 difference.
Runner Ibadhulla had secured a spot in the Olympic Games after placing first in the ranking with 1003 points. He remained the sole athlete to accumulate beyond a 1000 points in the ranking.
He also clocked a time of 10.7 seconds in a 100 meter sprint during his most recent race on July 18.
A total of five Maldivian athletes are set to join the Paris 2024 Olympics. In addition to Dheema and Ibadhulla, the others participating are:
1. Badminton: Fathimath Nabaha
2. Swimming: Aishath Ulya Shaaiq
3. Swimming: Mohamed Aan Hussain
