Addu Fisheries Complex expansion project to commence in July

Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that the expansion project of Addu Fisheries Complex operated in Addu atoll Hulhumeedhoo by Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), will commence in July.

President Solih revealed this while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Gan International Airport expansion project. In his speech, President Solih highlighted the instrumental role of the City’s progress for a holistic nationwide prosperity.

For the comprehensive progress, the development of Gan International Airport is instrumental because of which the project was initiated first, said the President.

President Solih highlighted that Gan International Airport has a significant role in transporting yellowfin tuna from the Southern parts of the Maldives to Male' City for foreign export. As part of the airport expansion project, a cold storage cargo facility will be established to store fish, which further streamline the logistics process.

"This will lead to cost reduction and shorten the logistical route, resulting in faster revenue generation. The physical work to expand the brine fisheries capacity from 50 tons to 100 tons will commence in July," commented President Solih.

President Solih added that fisheries harbor of MIFCO will become operational in August.

The Addu Fisheries Complex, developed during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration, had a total cost of USD 7 million. It includes a 1,500-ton cold storage facility capable of storing 100 tons of fish per day. Additionally, the complex features a 50-ton ice plant, 200-ton oil storage, and 250-ton water storage units.
