South-Machchangolhi MP Ahmed Haitham has requested the parliament to impose a visa and travel ban on Israeli arrivals to the Maldives.
The MP proposed the motion in response to Israel's ongoing inhumane attacks on Gaza and the Palestinian people.
MP Haitham submitted a formal request to Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, seeking a travel ban on Israel. He emphasized that Israel's ongoing assaults and strikes have resulted in the loss of thousands of children and innocent civilians' lives.
The MP also described the attacks as inhuman, stating that they violated all human rights principles.
"The attacks have amplified over the last 10 days with food, electricity and basic necessities cut off for over two million Palestinian Muslims, in an attempt to hold them hostage and wipe them out completely," Haitham said.
He also expressed concern over Israel's tourist arrivals in the Maldives and requested the foreign affairs committee of the parliament to assess the motion to boycott Israeli tourists and ban their passports.
Earlier, a resolution and an extraordinary motion calling on the government to cease all relations and impose sanctions against Israel were submitted to the parliament.
The parliament's chair proceeded to move forward with the resolution, citing that parliament regulations prioritized resolutions over an extraordinary motion submitted on the same matter.
