First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has stated that the government would ensure that children are provided with a safe environment, free of violence.
Speaking at the launching of the National Action Plan for Preventing Violence Against Children, Sajidha emphasized that it is the responsibility of the government to provide a safe environment for children, stating this is the reason why the national plan is being established.
The national action plan includes ensuring a safe and secure environment, free of violence, for every child, she said.
"The motto 'a family for every child' included in the government's manifesto shows our commitment towards ensuring a loving family environment for every child," the First Lady said.
She emphasized that including this in the manifesto is not enough on its own, stating that there are many efforts that must be made to achieve this.
"Swift action needs to be taken in cases of violence against children. With the establishment of this National Action Plan for Preventing Violence Against Children, we are paving the way to achieve that. More than a policy, this includes a road map, and steps to attend such incidents, and how to provide protection for children in such instances," she explained.
First Lady Sajidha highlighted that protection of children can be ensured through collaborative efforts by all, noting the importance of further raising awareness. She said that children who have been the victims of violence require not protection alone, but rather combined support in overcoming the psychological trauma that such incidents would inflict as well.
