CEO of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim has stated that approximately 100 families are living in the MPL housing flats and the rent will begin being collected from the employees after all tenants move in to their flats.
In an interview given to Mihaaru News, MPL's CEO, Wajeeh shared that despite vowing to provide all the employees residence inside the flats and making efforts to uphold it, all employees were not able to move in due to contractor delays.
MPL had released 534 flats to their employees which consists of 204 one-bedroom apartments and 330 three-bedroom apartments.
As assured by Wajeeh, efforts to expedite the construction of the flats and ensure livable conditions for the flat recipients are being made.
"What's not finished yet are responsibilities of the contractors. [It has been delayed] due to some issues," he said.
The CEO stated that the company will give a high priority to ensure the issuance of all the flats to their rightful recipients and that they will arrange alleviations for the tenants in relation to paying rent and the flat prices.
"The guarantee we give our employees is do not talk about the rent. Rent will be collected only once you [employees] move in and settle down. At this moment, their contracts stipulates that rent will begin being collected on the month of April. The guarantee I give is that it will not be collected from that date," he said.
Wajeeh highlighted that various employees are mandated to pay rent in different amounts based on the amount they paid for the down payment. Nevertheless, he stated that alleviations on the rent will be offered to the tenants.
