Imports down but revenue up 6 percent in July

The amount of imported goods to the Maldives decreased in July whereas the revenue had spiked by six percent, announced Maldives Customs Service.

According to Customs’ official statistics, goods worth MVR 2.1 billion had been imported to the archipelago last month, which is a decrease of 2 percent from last year July.

Meanwhile, Customs’ revenue for July via duty, fee and fines had an annual increase of six percent with a total revenue of MVR 185 million.

The statistics also show that the amount of exported goods from the Maldives in July had decreased by 30 percent from last year. Goods worth MVR 143 million had been exported last month whereas the exported goods in July 2015 had been MVR 204 million.
