The government decides to ensure social housing flats under the social housing scheme "Hiyaa" for all the applicants.
Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu revealed that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has decided to guarantee social housing for all the applicants.
The Minister said this while speaking at the special ceremony held to inaugurate the Vilimale 2 development project under the name 'Hiyaa accomplished’.
“The president has requested m to assure the public that no Maldivian will be left neglected”, said Minister Muizzu.
Housing ministry announced 7,000 flats from the ‘Hulhumale Phase 2’ under the government initiated housing scheme, Hiyaa Project. While approximately 18,000 applications have been received so far, the deadline for the applications has been extended till the end of the September.
During the ceremony, the Minister stated that there are very few requirements to be eligible for housing under the ‘Vilimale 2’ housing scheme.
“The only requirement is for the applicant to be over the age of 18, without any land plots of 1,000 square feet registered under their own name", revealed Dr Muizzu
The Minister also declared that there are possibilities to secure more than a single house or apartment under these schemes.
The Hiya project is expected to be completed by April 2019 according to the Housing Ministry.
