Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) on Sunday advised to practise caution as the trough of low-pressure developing near Sri Lanka has intensified and would affect the Maldives.

MET stated that the low-pressure area developing east of the Maldives over northern Sri Lanka was moving in a westward direction.

The meteorological service also revealed that large parts of the archipelago are expected to experience rainy conditions with thunderstorms and heavy rain.

An official from MET assured that the developing weather system is not unusual and shows no signs of developing into a storm.

Meteorological Service also advised citizens to be vigilant as heavy rain, thunder and rough seas are expected for the next 48 hours.
