Kaaf atoll Maafushi Council has begun the process of allocating 84 more land plots.

Council president, Hassan Sobah, said that the council will allocate more land by making changes to the land use plan.

Earlier in March, it was announced that 308 plots, each measuring 2,000 square feet, would be designated for residential purposes on the reclaimed land in Maafushi. According to the island council, priority will be given to the residents of the island while allotting land, considering the island's extensive guesthouse business. In April, the council amended the rules to increase the chances of residents acquiring land.

Sobah said he would approach the planning ministry for approval to finalise changes in the land use plan.

In 2021, the government acquired 25 hectares of land on the southern side of Maafushi lagoon by handing it over to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The island council has made a request to the government to connect this newly acquired land with the existing one.
