The Maldives has attracted over 700,000 tourists so far in 2023, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

According to recent statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, as of May 5, the total number of tourist arrivals in the Maldives stood at 710,645, which is a 17.5 percent increase compared to the same period in 2022, where arrivals stood at 604,730.

Meanwhile, tourist arrivals to the Maldives exclusively from May 1 to 5 stood at 22,361 which is a 19.9 percent decline from the 27,926 arrivals recorded for the same period last year. However, compared to the same period in 2021, which recorded 13,534 tourist arrivals, this year's figure of 22,361 indicates a 65 percent increase.

Total tourist arrivals in May 2019 stood at 21,637, indicating that the arrivals so far in May 2023 have exceeded that number by 3.2 percent.

The average daily tourist arrival rate for the year is 5,685, while from May 1 to 5, the average arrival rate is 4,472. In addition, the annual average duration of stay for tourists is 8.1 days, while from May 1 to 5 the average duration of stay is 7.4 days.
