COVID-19: Death toll reaches 189 in Maldives

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that 189 people have passed away from COVID-19 so far in Maldives.

This raises the number of people that passed away from COVID to 28 this month.

HPA said 189th fatality was a 77 year old Maldivian man that was admitted in Laamu COVID Management Facility. He passed away on Tuesday morning.

On Monday evening, a 75year old Maldivian man admitted in Hulhumale' Medical Facility had also passed away.

The number of COVID-19 fatalities have not decreased even though the daily amount of positives have steadily started to decrease. In the month of May, there were several weeks when the daily positives were above 1,000 cases. However, after the Greater Male' Area was put in a lockdown on May 26, the numbers have started to lower.

According to HPA, 552 people's sample gave positive results from the 5,043 samples that were tested on Monday. So far there have been 68,502 recorded cases of COVID-19.
