Oldest COVID-19 patient passes away in Maldives, aged 100

Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced the death of the oldest COVID-19 patient in Maldives so far. He was 100 years old.

With the death of the 100 year old Maldivian man that was admitted in Dharumavantha Hospital, the death toll of COVID deaths have reached 187. He passed away on Monday morning.

An elderly Maldivian man had passed away shortly after midnight on Monday as well. HPA said the 86 year old man was being treated for COVID-19 in Hulhumale Medical Facility.

Maldives was hit with one of its worst COVID in late April of this year. Last month 88 people had passed away from COVID. So far 26 people had passed away this month.

To control the rapid spread of COVID, Greater Male' Area was put under lockdown on May 26. The daily COVID positives, which was above 1,000 at some points in May, have now dropped to below three digits this past week. On Sunday, out of the 412 new cases that were recorded, 239 people were from Greater Male' Area.
