Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced there has been 185 COVID-19 fatalities in Maldives so far.

In the month of June, 24 people have passed away so far.

Four people had passed away on Saturday due to COVID in Maldives. They were a 64 year old Maldivian woman, a 79 year old Maldivian woman, a 28 year old Maldivian woman, and a 68 year old Maldivian woman. Except for the 28 year old woman, who was admitted in Dahrumavantha Hospital, the other women were admitted in Hulhumale' Medical Facility (HMF) when they passed away.

HPA had said the two people that passed away on Sunday were also admitted in HMF. The other COVID deaths were a 93 year old Maldivian man and a 82 year old Maldivian woman.

Maldives saw the worst wave of COVID-19 cases in late April, extending to throughout May, where the daily COVID positives were above a 1,000 cases for several weeks. Previously, daily positives were almost below 200, while they remained in double digits towards the end of 2020.

To control the rapid spread of COVID-19, Greater Male' Area was put in a lockdown on May 26. The restrictive measures placed, which limits the movements of the residents in the area seem to be working, as the daily COVID statistics have dropped below 1,000 in the previous week.

So far 67,950 people had tested positive for COVID-19 in Maldives.

Currently there are 19,000 active cases. When this surge was at it's worst, there had been over 28,000 active cases at certain points.
