Speaking at the inauguration of Etihad Airways’ new office to mark the airline’s fifth anniversary of operations to the archipelago, the airline’s Country Manager Hassan Al Hashimi hailed the expansion of the airline’s flights to the Maldives since its commencement in 2011. Etihad Airways currently operates daily flights to the island nation.
Noting the major role Etihad Airways plays in carrying tourists from different corners of the world to the Maldives, Hashimi expressed joy for the airline’s popularity among Maldivians, declaring that its objective is to connect the archipelago with the world.
He also rejoiced Etihad Airways’ achievement in claiming the World’s Leading Airline award consecutively over the past eight years at the World Travel Awards.
Hashimi thanked the Civil Aviation Authority and the airline’s ground handling partner, Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) for their cooperation in Etihad’s operations.
Speaking at the ceremony, the UAE non-resident ambassador to the Maldives, Abul Hamid Abdul Fattah Kazim Al Mulla expressed hopes to further strengthen and expand relations between the Maldives and UAE outside the field of aviation.
Highlighting the popularity of the Maldives as a tourist destination in the Gulf, he added that Etihad’s new office will facilitate passage to those in the Gulf anticipating vacations in the Maldives.
The ceremony also saw the appointment of Etihad’s new General Sales agent, Aviation Services Ltd, in collaboration with a Sri Lankan firm.
