Consulate warns over heavy flooding in Kerala

The Maldives' Consulate in Trivandrum, on Friday, urged caution over heavy flooding across the southern Indian state of Kerala.

Maldivians are advised to reach the Consulate through its hotline +919847702554 in case of emergencies.

Kochi International Airport was shut down on Thursday, as rising waters submerged the runways.

According to AFP, more than 20 landslides were reported. Indian officials have confirmed 22 deaths.

Indian Minister of Defence Pinarayi Vijayan stated that over 23,000 displaced individuals were moved into 315 emergency camps across the state.

Nearly 500 people lost their lives during the devastating floods in 2018.
