Indian reports have revealed that an advanced team has arrived in the Maldives for the preparation of the arrival Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ahead of President-Elect Ibrahim Mohammed Solih’s inauguration.

The Indian news agency stated that the arrival of the advanced team makes the arrival of Modi highly likely.

The Indian government, however, has not released an official statement regarding Modi’s visit to the Maldives as he is currently active in the campaign for the upcoming presidential election in India.

Solih's spokesperson, Mariya Ahmed Didi, said on Saturday, that officials from other countries have also been invited and added that the diplomatic channels are currently in charge of preparations for the invitees.

However, Mariya did not confirm Modi’s arrival during her speech.

“The fixation of the date of Solih’s inauguration was only decided a few days back. We are currently holding talks with the diplomatic channels over the parliament’s final decision on the occasion of the inaugural,” said Mariya.

Solih’s inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 17. The ceremony was initially announced to be open for the public, however, has since been changed to a closed event.

Maldives remains the only country in the region that the Indian prime minister has not visited. The bilateral ties between India and the Maldives suffered a strain during President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's regime.
