President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has left for Baku, Azerbaijan to join the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29).
At the conference, President Muizzu will deliver the Maldives' National Statement and participate in several high-level events, as well as hold discussions and bilateral meetings with other leaders.
'COP29 provides a critical platform for the Maldives to showcase its sustainable development goals and climate resilience efforts. President Dr Muizzu has been a strong advocate for the unique challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS)," the President's Office states.
COP29 will be centered on finalizing the new climate finance goal, holding discussions on operationalizing the carbon market and further strengthening cooperation across nations.
The President is making this trip directly following his visit to Saudi Arabia to attend the Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh.
