Thulusdhoo Council fined for dumping trash into sea

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fines Kaafu Thulusdhoo Council for dumping food waste into the sea.

The council was fined MVR 45,000 for mismanagement of the waste by not following the waste management regulations set by EPA. The council was ordered to pay the agency within 30 business days.

EPA has also instructed Thulusdhoo island council that they have to formulate a waste management plan for the island within the aforementioned period. They were also instructed to follow all laws and regulations established to protect and preserve the environment to be obeyed and to refrain from all acts that violate them.

Videos have recently surfaced of the Thulusdhoo Council clearing the dustbins placed on the island into the sea. Many have expressed concern over the incident.
