COVID-19: Maldives record 74th death

Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC), on Wednesday, announced the 74th COVID-19 related death in Maldives.

This raised the number of COVID deaths this month to six. The highest number of deaths recorded in a month was 10 fatalities in February.

As per reports, the 39-year-old Indian national passed away on Saturday at 2031 hrs. He passed away while on a ventilator undergoing treatment in the DH11 facility.

With the new fatalities, 58 locals have succumbed to the virus in Maldives. The remaining fatalities consist of eight expatriates, including six Bangladeshi nationals, one Filipino citizen and two Indians.

So far 27 people have passed from COVID this year.

Maldives is experiencing a rapid increase in the number of positive cases following a period of low figures. Currently, there are 5,230 active cases with 161 hospitalized.

Maldives recorded its first COVID related death on April 29, 2020.
