Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), on Sunday, established an online payment system for work Visa fees.
Minister of Communications, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal launched the digital portal during a ceremony held at MIRA's Tax Academy.
Commissioner General of Taxation Yazeed Mohamed stated that MIRA is working towards easing the use of their services and that MIRA aims to convert all their services to a digital medium in the future.
Moreover, Yazeed revealed that unlike other payment systems for MIRA, the online portal was developed with the assistance of the National Center for Information Technology (NCIT).
According to the state tax institution, MIRA paid the work Visa fees for over 131,000 people in 2018. The state received MVR 304 million as Visa fees the same year.
MVR 750 is collected as fee for a three-month work Visa.
Maldives Immigration was tasked with collecting the fees prior to MIRA taking over in 2011.
