Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has said that the provision of certain services related to expatriate workers may experience delays as the regulations concerning the entry of expatriates to the Maldives are currently being revised.
According to an announcement made by the Ministry last night, the issuance of foreign quotas, work permits, and deposits is likely to be delayed during this time.
The Ministry said it is reviewing the policies and procedural systems concerning the issuance of permits for expatriate workers in the Maldives. This initiative aims to establish a robust system that provides employers with accessible, swift, and efficient services, while ensuring accountability.
Homeland Ministry apologized for the possible delays in providing various services related to expatriates during this period and added that they are actively working to expedite all service requests pertaining to expatriate workers.

According to the Ministry, 10,619 people are liable for various fees and penalties related to expatriate workers, with a total of 102,807 foreigners registered under their names.
Therefore, the Ministry has now ordered that all payments related to expatriate fees and penalties be cleared before July 18. The identities of those who do not pay will be publicly announced, and they will be suspended through the expat system. Additionally, the issuance of new permits related to foreigners will also be suspended for them, according to the Ministry.
The government has initiated several efforts to stabilize the situation of expatriates in the Maldives. These include taking photographs and biometrics of all expatriates living in the Maldives and ensuring compliance with regulations. The government will also work towards identifying violators of the regulations and determining the companies or individuals they work for under this program.
