Seoul Metropolitan Government, on Saturday, decided to award additional consolation prizes of MVR 75,000 to the second and third place winners of the 'Urban Innovation Challenge', hosted by United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Maldives.
Seoul Metropolitan Government, which provided support in organizing the Challenge, decided to award additional prizes after reviewing innovative ideas presented by participants to transform Hulhumale' into a 'smart city'.
"They considered ideas presented by participants and decided to award consolation prizes" said Project Co-ordinator Aminath Shaliny, expressing the spontaneity of the decision.
Ooredoo Maldives and Housing Development Corporation (HDC) partnered with UNDP and Seoul Metropolitan Government to hold the Urban Innovation Challenge.
The Urban Innovation Challenge focused on three challenges to the sustainable development of Hulhumale presented by Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), Maldives Transport and Contracting Company(MTCC) and Housing Development Corporation(HDC).
The initial prize presented for the winner was the chance to collaborate with respective organisations and a budget of MVR120,000 provided as seed funding by Seoul Metropolitan Government.
