The Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure ceased the issue and acceptance of applications for the 400 land plots from Hulhumale Phase Two on Monday.
The halt comes amid conflicts between the Housing Ministry and Anti-Corruption and Commission (ACC), over the ministry's refusal to obey ACC's demand that issuance of land plots from Hulhumale Phase Two cease immediately.
When the decision to stop issuing forms and accepting applications was made several people were already queued outside the ministry.
During a press conference on Sunday, Minister of Housing Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that 400 land plots of 1,000 square feet would be sold to citizens of Male' City at a rate of MVR 400,000 from the Hulhumale Phase two project.
Following the press conference, ACC had ordered that the ministry stop issuing applications. However, even after ACC's order, the ministry had continued to issue applications for land buyers on Sunday.
However, after halting the issuing of forms, Housing Ministry announced that they were waiting on further word from ACC.
An official from the ministry reported that a letter had been sent to ACC stating the ministry's stand on the matter.
The sudden issuing of land followed President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih recent request urging the incumbent government not to begin any new projects during the transition process.
