The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has interviewed candidates and finalized members who will manage the normalization committee set to oversee the governance of Football Association of Maldives (FAM).
Mihaaru News reports that the names of those appointed into the committee will be disclosed within the week.
The Bureau of FIFA Council had simultaneously announced their decision to appoint normalization committees for FAM to address its dire governance and debt crises alongside the Tunisian Football Association in July.
Interviews to appoint members for the temporary committees which will oversee the governing football federations of both the Maldives and Tunisia are now concluded.
Sources say that normalization committees will be appointed for both the associations within the next 48 hour or by the end of the week at the latest, reports Mihaaru News.
The source further clarified that FIFA has determined a monthly stipend ranging from USD 4000 to USD 8000 for members appointed into the committee.
Meanwhile, rumors have speculated that the former Prosecutor General of Maldives, Ahmed Muizzu will also be chosen for the normalization committee. Mihaaru News had reached out to him for a comment, however, he had declined from addressing the speculations.
FAM's Normalization Committee will be responsible for reforming the governance of the federation, amending its constitution and organizing a re-election.
Additionally, an audit will be conducted to inspect financial transactions and the use of funds received by FAM. The last FAM president, Bassam Adeel Jaleel, is currently suspended over allegations of money laundering and mismanagement.
The normalization committee's term is set to end on July 31, 2025, however, is subject to extension if their mandates remain uncompleted.
