Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim affirmed that his presidency will facilitate Niqabi educators to teach without obstructions.

Qasim, who is currently on a presidential campaign visit to Noonu Atoll islands, announced this commitment during a campaign rally held at Henbadhoo. He emphasized his dedication to safeguarding the rights of all citizens during his presidency and assured that there would be no hindrances for the public in upholding their responsibilities to the Islamic faith.

The JP leader, who is running for a third time in a presidential race, said he decided to contest again to preserve the principles and tenets of the Islamic faith, protect the sovereignty and independence of the Maldives, and stabilize the economy.

“In my presidency, Niqabi ladies will not face any obstructions whether to teach or to attend offices for work,” Qasim said. He added that his presidency will allow women to dress modestly in accordance with the Islamic principles.

Qasim’s declaration had come amid the current administration’s decision to disallow Niqabi teachers to cover their face while teaching inside the classroom on Tuesday, August 22.

Qasim has also pledged to initiating a land reclamation project on the island, in addition to developing a football field and the enhancement of classroom facilities, including the installation of air conditioning systems.

JP’s manifesto includes a pledge to equip school classrooms nationwide with air conditioning units, as well as the installation of smart boards and 75-inch televisions. The party also plans to establish computer labs and implement modernization initiatives in schools.

While Qasim has visited Henbadhoo, he is set to visit Maalhendhoo, Landhoo, Kendhikulhudhoo and Maafaru from Noonu atoll.
