Applications have opened for the "Hour of Code at Women in Tech" program held by Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives.

Hour of Code is an event organised by Code.org as part of International Computer Science Week, which is celebrated in December every year in different parts of the world.

The program introduces children to vital information and activities related to computer programming, all within an hour.

The participants will be divided into age groups, and a series of activities have been planned to introduce them to science, coding, and the value of computer science. The program aims to connect 2,000 children across the nation.

The major event planned for this year's online "Hour of Code" will take place next Saturday. Interested students can now register through the link provided. Dhiraagu stated that anyone can take part in the program, either on an individual basis or through the schools or institutions in which they are enrolled.

Teachers from schools around the Maldives, employees of Dhiraagu and individuals from Women in Tech will be mentoring the students.

Since Code.org started the programme, millions of students have taken part in it from more than 180 different countries. Women in Tech has been the leading international partner from the Maldives for Code.org since 2019.

Dhiraagu also revealed that in-person sessions of the program were held at Kalaafanu School, Imaduddin School, Hiriya School, B. Goidhoo School, R. Hulhudhuffaaru School and Fuvahmulah School ahead of the "Hour of Code" event.
