Customs said that this is the first time in its 133-year history that a woman has been appointed as a Deputy Commissioner.
Fathimath Dhiyana, who has served the Maldives Customs Service for the last 23 years, has been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of the Maldives Customs Service.
In a post on X, Customs said that this is the first time in its 133-year history that a woman has been appointed as a Deputy Commissioner.
"[This is] A powerful step towards gender equality and empowerment in the Maldives Customs Service."
Dhiyana previously served as Deputy Chief Superintendent of Customs.
According to Customs, Dhiyana has rendered many valuable services over the past 23 years.
In addition to Dhiyana, Customs currently has two Deputy Commissioners: Abdulla Waheed and Mahmood Riyaz.
