Discussions underway to export 214 items to Turkey at zero percent tariff

Discussions between Maldives and Turkey commenced at the end of last month with the aim of formulating a Free Trade Agreement between the two countries. The second round of discussions under this effort took place yesterday.

Discussions are underway to export 214 goods to Turkey at zero percent tariff under the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Maldives and Turkey.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has stated that it has now formally requested the Turkish government to make these arrangements.

Discussions between Maldives and Turkey commenced at the end of last month with the aim of formulating a Free Trade Agreement between the two countries. The second round of discussions under this effort took place yesterday.

Under the trade agreement, certain goods exported by the two countries will receive concessions. Although the specifics of the goods to be covered under the agreement have not been disclosed, the government has announced that it has reached an agreement with the Turkish government to ensure a sufficient supply of staple food to the Maldives.

Under the agreement, staple foods have begun to be imported.

Since President Dr Mohamed Muizzu took office, close diplomatic relations between Maldives and Turkey have been established. The President made his first official visit to Turkey after assuming office, further solidifying the relationship between the two countries.
