The 14 year old boy who travelled to Male' from an island in Meemu atoll on a stolen speedboat alone during the late hours of last night still has not been found, Mihaaru has reported.
Reports indicate the boy came to Male' to save his 13 year old girlfriend from abuse allegedly being inflicted by the girl's family.
The boy had stolen a speedboat owned by the Cinnamon Hakura Resort which was moored in his island's lagoon. He had sailed it himself to Hulhumale'. As theft is practically unheard of in the island, the captain of the speedboat had left the keys in when he had left for home after mooring it, a resident from the island said.
The boy traveled the seas alone in a speedboat in the small hours of the night - a journey of about two hours - with what people from the island say is an intention 'to save his girlfriend from violence'.
Mihaaru further reports that the girl's family later reported her missing to the police after the boy had reached Male'. Citing an informed source, Mihaaru reports that after reaching Hulhumale' last night, the boy and girl had attempted to run away.
Citing yet another source, Mihaaru states that the girl has been found tonight and returned to her family who lives at the Hiya Flats in Hulhumale'.
The boy still remains missing.
No official authorities have commented on the matter as of yet.
Police said tonight that the speedboat had been found afloat near the Hulhumale' Ferry Terminal. It is believed that the boy had let the boat drift after he got off of it.
