Police arrest second suspect in Western Union heist

Police arrested a second suspect in connection to the Western Union heist, where a group of masked men armed with knives had robbed the Western Union branch in capital Male after tying up several employees on the night of October 2.

According to Police spokesperson, the second suspect is a 20 year old local youth who was arrested last Sunday. The spokesperson stated that the Criminal Court has extended the suspect’s remand by seven days.

Police had arrested the first suspected in connection to the heist earlier in October who remains in custody.

Police had earlier said over MVR6 million stolen in the heist had been recovered.

A total of MVR 1 million and USD 321,000 had been recovered which had reportedly been dumped by the robbers to aid their getaway.
