The Minister is attending the summit in Gambia as a Special Envoy of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and delivered the National Statement on the country's behalf.
Speaking at the Summit, Shaheem called for the implementation of a sustained ceasefire and the provision of adequate and necessary humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine.
He expressed concerns over the United Nations Security Council's continued failure to take crucial action towards establishing lasting peace.
"...it is not enough for the international community to simply call for a halt to the attacks. In the name of war, this genocide is still ongoing. A halt to the attacks need to be implemented," Shaheem said.
Shaheem called on Islamic nations to do more to hold Israel accountable for its genocidal acts, reiterating Maldives' steadfast support for Palestine's establishment as an independent and sovereign State based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as their capital, as well as their bid for full UN membership.
"We are a family of 57 nations. A population of over a billion that is increasing by the day. Then why are we failing to help muslims around the world?"
"Why are we unable to bring an end to the genocide in Palestine? Why are we unable to demand that the world takes strict action against this?"
The Minister additionally reflected on the situation in Myanmar, calling on nations to work closely with Gambia to prevent Rohingya genocide as an intervening state in their case against Myanmar at the International Court of Justice.
Shaheem further emphasized the importance of combating Islamophobia through dissemination of information on Islam, the true teaching of which he quoted as being peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and tolerance.
The OIC has 57 member States. Maldives has been an active member since joining the OIC in 1976.
