The Maldives government has increased disability allowances to MVR 6,000.
Currently, the state provides MVR 2,000 as financial assistance for individuals with special needs.
According to the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services, different categories have been established to determine the increased allowance based on specific needs.
This marks the first revision of the allowance since its introduction 12 years ago.
During a press conference held at the President's Office, the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) said that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has made the decision to provide an additional MVR 1,000 on top of the existing MVR 2,000 allowance.
Starting from this month, individuals with special needs will receive an allowance ranging from MVR 3,000 to MVR 6,000.
