Three Chinese ophthalmic medical experts from China-Maldives Eye Center arrived in Fuvahmulah City on June 16, 2023 for the Bright Journey mission.
The Bright Journey mission was initiated by the Chinese Embassy in the Maldives. The experts were welcomed by the Fuvahmulah City Council and the Fuvahmulah Hospital.
The Chinese Ophthalmic Medical Experts Bright Journey was launched in the Maldives on June 17. Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Lixin, Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem, Fuvahmulah City Mayor Ismail Rafeeq, and Fuahmulah Central MP Hussain Mohamed attended the ceremony.
During the launching ceremony, Ambassador Lixin said that the China-Maldives Eye Center had become a new landmark of the China-Maldives friendship, which brought back light to many locals and was highly appreciated by the Maldivian people. She also revealed that the Bright Journey mission will be expanded to other local islands in the country as well.
Ambassador Lixin highlighted the importance of medical cooperation in fostering strong and friendly relations between China and the Maldives emphasizing China's commitment to enhance self-development capabilities of the Maldivian people.
In her concluding remarks, Ambassador Lixin reaffirmed China's readiness to provide medical cooperation to the Maldives, not only in terms of infrastructure and equipment but also in terms of knowledge and expertise. She emphasized that China is committed to assisting the Maldivian people in improving their livelihoods and overall well-being.
Both the Minister of Health and Fuvahmulah City Mayor appreciated the Chinese medical team, and stressed that the Bright Journey mission will benefit more Maldivian citizens. They also added that the initiative was a vivid testimony to the China-Maldives friendship.
After the launching ceremony, the Chinese Ambassador along with Minister Naseem and the City’s Mayor visited the Chinese medical team and patients.
During the eye camp held in Fuvahmulah, hundreds of local residents visited the islands hospital to receive eye-sight check-ups and consultations for various sight-related issues such as glaucoma and cataract exams. The Chinese medical team, dedicated to the mission, provided treatment to almost 200 patients during their visit. The mission came to a close on June 18, 2023.
