The Chinese government has donated 3,000 LED lights to Male' city council.
China's Ambassador to the Maldives H.E. Wang Lixin handed over the items at a ceremony held today at the Male' city council.
The Chinese Ambassador donated 3,000 LED lights to the council on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between China and Maldives.
Mayor of Male' city council, Dr Mohamed Muizzu who attended the ceremony said the donation received through the Chinese Embassy will enable all the streetlights in Male' nd Vilimale' to be replaced with modern lights.
He said that the donation received by China will replace the dim lights currently in use in the city.
Muizzu said he had met the Ambassador a few days ago and spoke about the current projects undertaken and requested the assistance needed to accelerate the work being done by the city council. The mayor thanked China for its swift assistance soon after the meeting.
“I would like to thank China for its generous assistance to the infrastructure development of the city and the improvement of the lives of the people,” the Mayor said.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Maldives in 1972, China has played a key role in development projects of Maldives under their China aid program.
