The number of reported dengue cases has reached 173 in the past two months but its spread is on the decline, Health Protection Agency (HPA) said Wednesday.
In a statement, HPA said the number of dengue cases reported in the past three weeks has gradually declined.
The most cases in the past two weeks were reported from the capital Male, reclaimed suburb Hulhumae, Haa Alif Atoll Ihavandhoo and Laa mu Atoll Isdhoo.
HPA had earlier revealed that over 150 cases were reported from the capital.
The mid-year south-west monsoon, marked by heavy rainfall, leads to an explosion of dengue cases. Some six people died of dengue last year while more than 1,800 cases were reported.
HPA also assured that authorities were continuing dengue control campaigns to raise awareness and eliminate breeding grounds.
