Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has suspend 7,500 employers from the Xpat system to date due to failure to settle overdue expatriate worker related fees and fines.

The Xpat system is the portal through which all fees related to bringing in expatriate workers can be paid to the State. Work permits and quotas are also issued through applications sent via this portal.

State Minister at Homeland Security Ministry Abdul Majeed Ibrahim told Mihaaru News today that the 7,500 entities were blocked from the system for failing to pay any fines levied against them. He said that they would be granted access to the portal again upon settling the pending payments.

The ministry has previously offered employers the opportunity to setle payments through approved schedules. Majeed said that in response to this, 3,692 employers have requested for the overdue payments to be divided into monthly installments over a period of one year.

According to him, the highest amount owed within these applicants is MVR 23.2 million, which the ministry has allowed to be divided over a year.
