Over 50 homes in Kaafu atoll Guraidhoo faced varying levels of damage during torrential rain and flooding on Monday night.

An official from the Guraidhoo Council Office stated that the rains began around 19:30 hrs last night and went on for at least two hours.

After the rain subsided two hours later, a large part of the island was flooded, with several houses facing damage as a result.

"The rain stopped at around half past nine last night. By that time, the roads were entirely flooded, and a lot of houses were damaged," he said.
