Settlement committee planned on giving large sums of money, land, lagoons as compensation

The Settlement Committee formed by the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih planned on giving away millions of rufiya in cash, as well as over a billion rufiya worth in islands, lagoons and land plot as compensation, Mihaaru has reported.

The Settlement Committee formed by the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih planned on giving away millions of rufiya in cash, as well as over a billion rufiya worth in islands, lagoons and land plot as compensation, Mihaaru has reported.

However, the present administration has halted this process stating compensation cannot be provided without the advice of the Attorney General, and dissolved this committee.

Mihaaru reports that it has obtained some details regarding some settlement agreements made by the committee. They state that the committee had decided to provide compensation to 10 entities after cancelling agreements made with them.

Four of these parties were offered monetary compensation amounting to MVR 225.35 million. The biggest settlement amount was offered to Dheebaja, at MVR 64 million.

Other decisions include 3 to 4 lagoons, islands, and land plots as settlements, as well as agreements to provide additional lagoons and land plots as compensation.

Although definite values of the lagoons, islands and land plots were not listed, the incumbent government has estimated that the compensation and settlement amounts decided on by the committee exceed a billion rufiya.

Every decision by the committee conditions that no further complaints or charges will be raised against the State. It was also further agreed that the State would not divulge the details of the settlement terms. Each agreement is defined as being confidential.

1. Leisure Beach Pvt Ltd: Extending the lease of Vaavu atoll Fohtheyobodufushi

2. Slia Sands Pvt Ltd: Thaa atoll Vanbadhi, Kani and Fushi for 50 years and Alif Alif atoll Maafarufalhu

3. Umet Construction Pvt Ltd: MVR 26 million

4. Blue Lagoon Investment: Alif Alif Madoogali for 50 years, and in exchange for USD 20 million, Raa atoll Vilin'gili, Raa atoll Thaavatha, Raa atoll Orimasfaru land for 50 years

5. Exotic Properties Pvt Ltd: Noonu atoll Ekulhivaru for 99 years

6. Dheebaja Investment: MVR 64 million

7. Coreline Pvt Ltd: 5.32 hectares of land from Lhaviyani atoll Dhihdhoo for 21 years without paying rent

8. Amsan Food and Beverages Pvt Ltd: MVR 5.1 million

9. Abdulla Ali, H. Giritherege: Haa Dhaalu atoll Hondaafushi for 50 years and cancellation of rent and fines owed for the island

10. JH Resorts Pvt Ltd: Haa Dhaalu Kuda Muraidhoo for 50 years, and cancellation of earlier due rent and fines
